Evident expands digital pathology scanner for small and medium-sized labs

Evident has launched the Pramana™ POD Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) scanner, a new benchtop device aimed at making digital pathology more accessible for small and medium-sized laboratories. The scanner is designed to help labs produce reliable images with minimal user intervention, supporting specialized applications within larger institutions.

The new scanner addresses the needs of pathology laboratories expanding their digital workflows amidst increasing case volumes and operational demands. The Pramana POD brings Evident's established autonomous WSI technology to a broader market, including smaller labs, by integrating seamlessly into existing laboratory workflows and delivering consistent, high-quality images across various sample types.

"Pramana's WSI technology has seen tremendous adoption in pathology labs at university hospitals and across laboratory networks in the United States," said Prasanth Perugupalli, Vice President of Digital Pathology at Evident. "By integrating quality assurance throughout the slide imaging process, Pramana's technology can help labs of all sizes reduce the need for post-scan quality assurance and its associated costs and delays."

The Pramana POD scanner automates the imaging process with an advanced tissue finder, comprehensive label detection, and automatic selection of focus planes and scan profiles. Its integrated image quality assessment helps deliver whole slide images ready for pathologists and identifies scans that may require further review. The system offers true 40x magnification and produces 25 slides per hour under defined conditions.

Evident, formerly Olympus, has over 100 years of history in optical precision in microscopy, now providing advanced imaging solutions for both life science and industrial applications.
