Evident expands digital pathology solutions with Pramana scanner
Evident has unveiled the Pramana™ POD benchtop whole slide imager, aimed at making digital pathology more accessible for small and medium-sized laboratories.

Needham, Massachusetts – Evident has introduced the Pramana™ POD, a new benchtop whole slide imaging (WSI) system designed to assist laboratories in producing reliable images for pathology analysis. The device is tailored for small to medium-sized laboratories and specialized applications within larger institutions, aiming to simplify the adoption of digital pathology.
Pathology laboratories are facing increasing case volumes and operational demands, driving the development of digital workflows. These labs require scanning systems capable of producing high-quality, consistent images across all specimen types that integrate with existing workflows. The Pramana POD scanner is engineered to meet these needs, extending Pramana's proven standalone WSI technology to smaller labs.
"Pramana WSI technology has been extremely well received by anatomical pathology labs at academic medical centers and laboratory networks across the United States," stated Prasanth Perugupalli, Vice President of Digital Pathology at Evident. "By integrating quality assurance throughout the entire imaging process, Pramana technology can help labs of all sizes reduce the need for post-scan quality assurance and its associated costs and timelines."
The Pramana POD scanner automates imaging with an advanced tissue localization system, extended label detection, and automated focus plane and scan profile selection. Built-in image quality assessment ensures pathologist-ready whole slide images and identifies studies that may require further review. Volumetric imaging captures multiple focal planes, enabling the selection of sharp focal information across the entire scanned area, delivering true 40X imaging at 25 slides per hour under defined conditions. The Pramana series is well-suited for most brightfield imaging applications, including histopathology, needle biopsies, hematology, cytology, and microbiology.
Evident, formerly Olympus, aims to set industry standards in optical precision and advance scientific research and medical diagnostics through advanced imaging solutions. The new Pramana POD scanner is part of this commitment to increase accessibility to advanced pathology imaging solutions.
