Evonik Expands Lipid-Based Drug Substance Production Capacity in Vancouver

Evonik has initiated an expansion of its production capacity for lipid-based drug substances at its facility in Vancouver, Canada. The new Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant plant is intended to address the increasing demand for lipid nanoparticle development and clinical drug substance production.

The company is investing over CAD 150 million (approximately EUR 93 million) in the project. This expansion is part of Evonik's strategy to strengthen its position in the pharmaceutical delivery solutions market.

The project is supported by funding from the Canadian government's Strategic Innovation Fund, highlighting its significance for the local and national biotechnology sector. The expansion is expected to significantly enhance the company's capability to support drug development from early-stage research through to commercial production.

The new Vancouver facility will offer advanced services, particularly focusing on mRNA technology and other nucleic acid-based therapies. This build-up reinforces Evonik's role as a global provider in the manufacturing of advanced pharmaceutical ingredients.
