Ex-Apple designer unveils doorless electric vehicle

Amble, a technology startup featuring Julian Hoenig, a former design lead at Apple who worked on the Apple Watch and Vision Pro, has introduced its first electric vehicle. The Amble One is a compact, two-seat buggy that eschews traditional car features, including doors, and has a top speed of 40 mph. Its curb weight is under 1,000 pounds, classifying it as an L7e quadricycle in Europe.

Hoenig, who also contributed to the design of the Audi R8, aimed to create a vehicle for the numerous short trips that do not require a full-sized car. Data indicates that a significant portion of daily travel is under three miles. Amble One offers a stripped-down, lighter alternative to conventional EVs, focusing on essential mobility rather than extended range or high performance.

The vehicle utilizes materials such as aluminum, leather, cotton, and cork. The Amble One is priced at approximately $25,000 and is equipped with a 15 kW motor, providing over 60 miles of range. It can be charged from a domestic socket in about five and a half hours.

Amble is initially targeting the hospitality sector, with first deliveries scheduled for mid-2027 to luxury resorts like Amangiri and Six Senses. The company has secured orders for over 500 vehicles and reports more than 10 million euros in signed revenue before any deliveries. A consumer launch is planned for 2028.
