Ex-Mayo Clinic Employee Sues, Claims AI Concerns Led to Job Elimination

A former Mayo Clinic research director and AI compliance lead, Traci Tamiko Eto, has filed a civil lawsuit against the healthcare giant. The suit alleges that Mayo Clinic skirted AI compliance rules and masked error rates to expedite the rollout of its technology.

Eto claims her job was eliminated as retaliation after she blew the whistle on concerns that the hospital's rush to integrate AI into its operations put patient care and privacy at risk. She alleges the organization bypassed regulatory standards and masked error rates.

Artur Davis, Eto's attorney, told MPR News that the case is significant because it involves intimate and confidential patient information. He stated that the lawsuit matters for anyone concerned about the responsible handling of AI, its integrity, and the need for rules and guidelines. Mayo Clinic has 21 days to respond to the lawsuit filed in federal court. The company did not immediately respond to Inc. Magazine's request for comment.
