Ex-Pleo Executive Targets US Rivals with AI CFO Startup
Light, an AI-powered "AI CFO" startup founded by former Pleo executive Jonathan Sanders, is expanding into the US market to compete with established domestic players.

Light, the AI-driven startup founded by former Pleo executive Jonathan Sanders, is expanding its operations into the United States. The company aims to compete with existing US-based financial technology firms by offering advanced AI tools for chief financial officer functions.
Sanders, who previously served as head of payments at the spend management fintech Pleo, co-founded Light in 2021. The company develops AI-powered software designed to automate and enhance financial management tasks, including expense reporting and financial forecasting.
The expansion into the US market comes as several AI-based financial management tools in the US have recently secured significant funding. Light, which is backed by Balderton Capital, believes its technology can offer a competitive edge in addressing the growing demand for more efficient financial operations.
"There is a need in the market for clear, repeatable processes that AI can effectively support," Sanders stated. He emphasized that Light's software is built to help companies better understand and manage their financial data, crucial for growth and profitability.
