EXP Architect Sara Fetterolf Contributes to Gender-Neutral Design Discussion

Sara Fetterolf, an architectural designer at EXP, recently co-chaired a program titled 'Gender Neutral Design: Restrooms and Beyond,' organized by AIA Chicago and NeoConnect. The event aimed to advance discussions on creating more inclusive built environments.
As co-chair of AIA Chicago’s LGBTQI+ Alliance, Fetterolf facilitated a panel featuring experts from academia, consulting, architecture, and design, along with a building official from the City of Chicago. The discussion covered the historical context, current examples, and strategies for promoting equitable design.
The program addressed how elements like restrooms can be designed to transcend traditional norms, promoting comfort and functionality for all users. Over 800 attendees, including many EXP employees, participated in the event, which explored ways to encourage equitable design practices.
Fetterolf stated that insights from such discussions enhance her ability to deliver innovative solutions and multidimensional design approaches on large-scale public projects at EXP, benefiting clients and communities.
