EXP designs sustainable police station in Magog

Engineering firm EXP has designed a new Quebec Police station for the Sûreté du Québec in Magog, Quebec. The 1,600-square-meter facility integrates sustainable features, such as geothermal systems, with the use of regional materials like granite and wood.

EXP’s team addressed the rigorous design standards for police infrastructure while meeting LEED certification objectives. The building's interior features a modern and warm design with natural wood tones, utilizing exposed glulam beams for enhanced insulation and fire resistance. Accessibility and integrated artwork are also key aspects of the design.

The building has achieved LEED Canada-NC Silver certification. Green measures include a 225-cubic-meter underground retention basin for stormwater management and landscaping to reduce heat island effects. EXP overcame site challenges through meticulous planning and technical expertise.

The firm provided structural engineering, civil engineering, energy efficiency services, and LEED support. The project's success was attributed to close collaboration among all stakeholders to meet the demanding requirements of a public safety facility.
