EXP to support Thacker Pass lithium project production
EXP has been selected to support the full production of the Thacker Pass lithium project in Nevada. The firm will provide engineering and construction support for the sulfuric acid plant.

Engineering and technology firm EXP has been selected to support the full production of the Thacker Pass lithium project in northern Nevada. The mine represents the world's largest known measured lithium resource and reserve. EXP will provide engineering, procurement, construction support, commissioning, and start-up services for the project's sulfuric acid plant.
The plant will convert liquid sulfur into sulfuric acid, which is necessary for leaching lithium from clay and stone. The facility will utilize proprietary and well-proven MECS® technology to convert waste heat into steam. This steam can then be transformed into electricity, contributing to regional decarbonization efforts.
"We are proud to be part of the world-class team committed to enabling a critical lithium supply in the United States – safely and sustainably," said EXP's Senior Vice President of Oil, Gas + Chemicals, W. Vulcan Mutler.
The Thacker Pass project is being developed by Lithium Americas, aiming to establish a significant lithium hub in northern Nevada. EXP's involvement is crucial for ensuring the successful operationalization of the facility.
