Expedia Data Shows Strong Soccer Travel Demand Amidst Higher Prices
Expedia's analysis reveals sustained strong travel demand for the upcoming soccer tournament, with fans adapting to higher prices by seeking alternative destinations and smarter travel choices.

Travel company Expedia has released new data indicating that interest in traveling to North America for the upcoming major international soccer tournament remains robust, despite increased flight prices and other travel costs. According to the report, fans are adjusting their travel behaviors to make trips feasible.
New Jersey in the United States has seen the largest global increase in flight searches (+40%). Hotel demand is also strong in host cities, with two Canadian host cities ranking among the top five for hotel searches. Los Angeles has emerged as the most popular destination for both flight and accommodation searches.
For budget-conscious travelers, there is positive news regarding pricing. Hotel prices have decreased in recent weeks in some host cities. Fans are increasingly utilizing "alternative destinations" located near the main tournament venues. Examples include Hamilton, Ontario, and Richmond, British Columbia, where travelers can save over $100 per night compared to the primary host cities.
The data also points to a rise in last-minute bookings and long-haul travel. Notably, searches from fans in Brazil and Argentina have surged by over 500%. Canadian fan searches have increased by 20%, placing them 11th globally. The company states that demand is not slowing but rather shifting.
With one week remaining until the tournament kicks off, the summer is expected to be busy for the travel industry, and Expedia continues to monitor the situation. While rising flight prices may influence travel plans, the tournament's global appeal is anticipated to keep travel volumes high.
