Experts Discuss Labor Market Shifts and Future Employment

During the first Magellan Partners event held on April 23, experts convened to discuss employment and innovation. The discussions centered on the future of the job market and anticipating its mutations.

The central question posed was whether the current changes represent an unprecedented transformation leading to the disappearance of most jobs, or a new historical transition akin to the industrial revolution. France Travail's ROME 4.0 repository will soon detail over 2,000 specific occupations, a significant increase from the 532 previously cataloged. Beyond AI, the ecological transition and sovereignty-related challenges are also reshaping the labor landscape.

Alongside technical skills, the growing recognition of socio-behavioral competencies—such as collaboration, communication, and continuous learning—is highlighted as crucial. Demographic shifts also play a role in labor needs and resources. France Stratégie is conducting 10-year quantitative forecasts on occupational evolution and labor demand, factoring in automation and AI impacts.

Research indicates that AI affects all professions, not just industrial automation, significantly impacting management and the tertiary sector. Experts emphasize placing humans at the forefront and fostering social dialogue, arguing that AI systems must be understood and adopted by employees, not merely imposed. Competence is also framed as a sovereignty issue, with no adequate training model yet developed to address this challenge.
