Experts Discuss Sichuan Baijiu's Song and Yuan Dynasty Legacy
Experts gathered in Yibin to discuss the history and development of Sichuan Baijiu during the Song and Yuan dynasties.
The third season of "Experts' Insights into Sichuan Baijiu" commenced on September 16 at the Yibin 501 Baijiu Cultural Sacred Site. Leading experts from archaeology, history, literature, brewing, and media communications initiated a dialogue exploring over seven centuries of historical developments.
The program, co-hosted by Sichuan Daily All-Media and Wuliangye, delves into Chinese baijiu culture through interdisciplinary dialogue. This season's theme, "Song-Yuan Legacy in Every Sip," aims to connect contemporary interest in historical industries with findings from the "Wuliangye Archaeological Exploration" project. Notable guests included Li Jingze, Vice Chairman of the China Writers Association, and Sun Hua, Professor at Peking University.
Deng Min, Chairman of Wuliangye Group Co., Ltd., emphasized in his speech that the company's lineage traces back to the pre-Qin period, flourishing through the Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties. He noted that archaeological findings confirm the Yibin multi-grain Daqu liquor brewing tradition's origins in the Song and Yuan eras. Wuliangye is committed to preserving ancient brewing sites and techniques to revitalize Sichuan Baijiu culture and promote it globally.
Li Jingze delivered a keynote address linking the Song Dynasty litterateur Huang Tingjian's historical encounter with an early form of Wuliangye, Yaozi Xuequ, in Yibin. Li suggested that both calligraphy and brewing require similar patience and tranquility, which are universal prerequisites for human cultural creation.
During the panel discussion, experts engaged in a broad dialogue covering archaeology, economics, brewing, literature, and media communications. Participants included archaeologist Sun Hua, historian Li Huarui, and cultural scholar Wang Zhaopeng.
