Explosive drone disarmed near Ukrainian cargo aircraft at German airport

German police successfully disarmed a drone laden with explosives that was found hovering near Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Leipzig airport. The incident occurred shortly before midnight on August 4. Authorities are also investigating the potential presence of a second drone after an approaching aircraft reported a mid-air collision.

The drone was initially spotted by an airport employee between two parked An-124 cargo planes belonging to Ukraine's Antonov Airlines. Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt stated that the drone had apparently been modified to evade the airport's detection systems.

According to Dobrindt, the drone was carrying a package the size of a fist, believed to contain the plastic explosive Semtex. He indicated that a failed detonator was the sole reason the drone did not explode near the aircraft.

This event raises significant security concerns regarding the misuse of drones and potential threats to critical infrastructure. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the incident and identify any involved parties.
