FACC Optimizes Inspection Processes Using Augmented Reality
Aerospace parts manufacturer FACC AG has implemented an augmented reality (AR) solution to enhance component inspections. The technology was developed in collaboration with university students.

FACC AG, a key technology partner for the aviation industry, has improved its component inspection processes by implementing a digital solution that utilizes augmented reality (AR). This new method was successfully tested in collaboration with students from the "Smart Production and Management" program at FH Oberösterreich.
The AR technology integrates digital information into the user's environment in real-time via a tablet. It overlays a live view of the component with digital content generated by software. Specially developed AR software for industrial applications projects inspection instructions as digital 3D overlays directly onto the part being examined.
According to FACC, the automatic navigation to each inspection point and mandatory confirmation of compliance minimize the risk of errors and deviations. This enables early detection of defects and ensures product quality.
The AR-assisted solution offers significantly faster inspections, particularly for large and complex components. Automated documentation of inspection results and a structured process enhance quality assurance. FACC also sees potential for further applications within production, as well as for maintenance and repair work.
