FACC supplies components for COMAC C919 maiden flight
Chinese manufacturer COMAC successfully flew its C919 passenger aircraft for the first time, featuring critical structural and interior components developed by FACC AG.

The COMAC C919, China's latest medium-range passenger jet, completed its first successful flight on May 5, 2017. Austrian aerospace supplier FACC AG, which has partnered with COMAC since 2004, provided several systems for the aircraft, including cabin interiors and aerodynamic wing components.
FACC’s contribution to the C919 includes the design of the passenger cabin, cockpit linings, and service areas, as well as spoilers and winglets. CEO Robert Machtlinger noted that the company’s focus was on using lightweight composite materials to optimize fuel consumption and operational efficiency for the narrow-bodied aircraft.
Designed for short and medium-range routes, the C919 carries between 156 and 180 passengers. COMAC is positioning the aircraft to capitalize on the growing Chinese aviation market, with projections indicating a demand for over 2,000 aircraft of the C919 family over the next 20 years.
The aircraft will now undergo an extensive flight-test program to evaluate system performance and safety protocols. Service entry for the C919 is currently scheduled for 2020.
