Beitragsservice has stated that these letters are forgeries and have never been issued by their organization. Key indicators to identify these fraudulent documents include an incorrect "Beitragsnummer" (contribution number) that does not match the recipient's personal number, a non-existent email address provided in the letter, and bank details leading to an account at an Irish bank, which the service does not utilize.
The organization strongly advises anyone who receives such a letter not to transfer any money. They urge recipients to verify their "Beitragsnummer" on legitimate correspondence from Beitragsservice. For enhanced security and to prevent future scams, the service recommends opting for direct debit (Lastschriftverfahren).
The broadcasting contribution is a mandatory fee in Germany intended to fund public service broadcasters ARD, ZDF, and Deutschlandradio. These scams aim to exploit the obligation to pay this fee for illicit financial gain.
