Famous Bald Eagle Jackie Fights for Life, Habitat Secured

Bald eagle Jackie, a celebrity from Big Bear Valley's live nest cameras, is currently in critical but stable condition at the Ojai Raptor Center. Jackie was found injured on July 17 following a confrontation with younger eagles and is being treated for severe anemia and kidney inflammation. While her condition remains critical, her health indicators show positive trends.

Concurrently, the Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) organization has successfully raised over $10 million to preserve approximately 63 acres of the eagles' habitat, known as "Moon Camp." A significant donation from Greg Brockman, co-founder of OpenAI, was instrumental in reaching this fundraising goal. Jenny Voisard, media manager for FOBBV, expressed profound gratitude for the contributions.

Voisard noted that Jackie had exhibited unusual behavior since July 4 and had been involved in multiple altercations with sub-adult eagles. The final incident led to her rescue. Jackie's mate, Shadow, continues to care for their offspring while she undergoes treatment.

The fundraising campaign for "Moon Camp" surpassed its target, largely due to the substantial donation. The funds will ensure the land is preserved as undeveloped wilderness. FOBBV highlights the broader importance of conservation and habitat protection.
