FAW and Leapmotor Deepen Strategic Cooperation
Chinese automaker FAW Group and electric vehicle company Leapmotor have signed an agreement to deepen their strategic partnership. The collaboration will focus on vehicle development, intelligent driving, and powertrain technologies.

FAW Group and electric vehicle manufacturer Leapmotor have signed an agreement to deepen their strategic cooperation. The signing ceremony took place in Changchun on August 24.
The new agreement outlines an intensified collaboration across several key areas. These include capital cooperation, new energy vehicle development, intelligent driving systems, powertrain components, battery technology, intelligent chassis, body manufacturing processes, lightweight components, humanoid robots, and financial services.
FAW Group and Leapmotor initially established a strategic partnership with a memorandum of understanding signed in March 2025. Leapmotor Vice President Li Tengfei later stated that the first project, a Hongqi overseas model, was already underway, with mass production expected in the second half of 2026 for international sales.
FAW Group has previously signaled its intent to expand its global footprint. In June 2026, FAW Vice General Manager Chen Bin announced plans to introduce six right-hand drive models within the next three years, including Hongqi-exclusive vehicles for overseas markets.
Leapmotor will provide its electric vehicle platforms and technology to support Hongqi's expansion, particularly in international markets. One revealed model is a "Global SUV," which appears to be a rebranded version of Leapmotor's B10 model.
