FAW Group and GAC Industrial, two major state-owned Chinese automotive manufacturers, have signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The collaboration is positioned as a model for high-quality development within the industry and aims to strengthen domestic competitiveness on the global stage.

The partnership aligns with China's "15th Five-Year Plan" for the intelligent connected new energy vehicle industry. It intends to facilitate strategic restructuring and cross-regional resource integration among enterprises through market-oriented and legally compliant approaches.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) has supported the initiative, highlighting its role in optimizing the industry structure and advancing China's ambition to become a global automotive power. However, CAAM noted that cross-regional integration faces practical challenges, including the transfer of production quotas, tax sharing, and lengthy approval processes.

CAAM has called for improved supporting policies regarding production capacity exchange, tax sharing, asset disposal, and personnel placement to clear obstacles for market-based integration. The association also emphasizes the need for industry monitoring and self-regulation to foster rational development, orderly competition, and collaborative innovation.

Both FAW Group and GAC Industrial anticipate mutual benefits from the partnership. FAW is expected to leverage GAC's strengths in the Greater Bay Area, including its talent pool and industrial ecosystem. GAC, in turn, will gain access to FAW's national network and resources, enhancing its market presence, particularly in Northern China.
