FAW-Volkswagen Jetta M6 Electric Sedan Rolls Off Production Line in China
The Jetta M6, FAW-Volkswagen's first fully electric sedan under the Jetta brand, has completed its first production run at the Chengdu plant. The facility also celebrated surpassing 7 million total vehicle production.
FAW-Volkswagen's Jetta brand has marked a significant milestone with the first production model of its Jetta M6 electric sedan rolling off the assembly line at its Chengdu facility. The plant also celebrated surpassing a total production volume of 7 million vehicles during a ceremony held at the East Assembly Workshop.
The Jetta M6 is positioned as the brand's first strategic new energy vehicle and was publicly unveiled at the 2026 Chengdu International Auto Show, where blind pre-orders commenced. The pure electric sedan was previously listed in the 409th batch of the "Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturer and Product Announcement" by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in July 2026.
The vehicle measures 4806 mm in length, 1868-1895 mm in width, and 1500 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2820 mm. It is designed to seat five people, and its curb weight ranges from 1557 kg to 1628 kg depending on the configuration. Tire specifications include 215/55 R17 or 215/50 R18.
Internally, the Jetta M6 features a minimalist design with a full LCD instrument cluster paired with a large, floating central infotainment screen and a dual-spoke multi-function steering wheel. Notable features include hidden ambient lighting, a wireless charging panel for mobile phones, and a panoramic glass roof. The front seats are designed to fold completely flat, creating a "bed mode" in conjunction with the rear seats.
Jetta announced its comprehensive transition to intelligent electric mobility at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, where it also introduced a new logo for its electric vehicle lineup. The Jetta M6 signifies the initial product from this renewed focus on electrification for the brand.
