FBI Links $6.3 Billion Cryptocurrency Theft from Binance to North Korea
The FBI has attributed a record $6.3 billion digital asset theft from Binance to the North Korean hacking entity TraderTraitor.

Federal investigators have identified the hacking operation known as TraderTraitor as the entity responsible for stealing $6.3 billion from Binance. The breach, which ranks as one of the largest in cryptocurrency history, occurred after attackers compromised an engineer’s laptop.
The FBI reports that the stolen assets are being laundered through decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms and token-swapping services to obscure the trail. Investigators have observed a significant portion of the funds being converted into Ethereum as part of the group's efforts to move the capital beyond detection.
Binance has committed to fully reimbursing its user base for all lost assets. CEO Richard Teng stated that 90% of the funds have already been recovered, with the company covering the remainder to ensure no financial impact on its customers. The exchange temporarily froze $3 billion in assets and restricted withdrawals while stabilizing its infrastructure.
