FCC Chairman Defers to Defense Secretary on Execution Broadcast Decision
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr stated he will defer to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth regarding whether TV networks can broadcast the planned execution of Nidal Hasan.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr announced he will defer to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on the decision of whether television networks can air the planned execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan.
The Pentagon has indicated the execution will be livestreamed, likely via an online platform outside the FCC's regulatory reach. However, broadcast television networks commonly air live government events, and Carr's agency oversees public airwaves.
"My understanding is it's not on broadcast TV, so I don't think there's a role for the FCC one way or the other," Carr stated in a CNBC interview. He expressed trust in the Defense Department's judgment on the matter.
The situation raises questions about media involvement in broadcasting potentially graphic events, particularly in the context of a military execution.
