Female Founders' Funding Hits Second-Best Quarter, Driven by Single Startup

Startups with at least one woman founder in the U.S. raised $73.2 billion during the second quarter, marking their second-best quarterly performance on record. However, the significant increase is largely attributed to a single major funding round.

AI company Anthropic, co-founded by Daniela Amodei and her brother Dario Amodei, accounted for the vast majority of this total. Anthropic secured $65 billion in May at a post-money valuation of $965 billion, making it one of the world's most valuable private companies.

When Anthropic's substantial financing is excluded, the remaining 621 startups with female founders collectively raised approximately $8.2 billion. This highlights how a single large investment can skew the overall funding landscape for female-led companies.

Anthropic reported that its run-rate revenue crossed $47 billion in May. The company stated the new funding will help meet significant demand, expand computing capacity, and maintain its position at the forefront of AI research.
