Feronord consortium wins contract for East Link railway project south of Stockholm

The Feronord consortium, comprising Infrakraft, Bouygues Travaux Publics, and Colas Rail, has been selected by the Swedish Transport Administration Trafikverket to undertake the OL32 Skavsta contract for the East Link project. This section of the project involves the construction of approximately 36 kilometers of railway track, including substantial earthworks, 28 bridges, and three viaducts, one of which spans 1.4 kilometers.

The East Link project is identified as a key infrastructure component within Sweden's national transport development program. Its objectives include enhancing railway network capacity, facilitating travel between the Stockholm/Mälardalen region and Östergötland, and promoting more sustainable mobility. This contract also introduces a new collaborative partnership model for contracting in Sweden.

Feronord was chosen for its capacity to engage in close collaboration with the client and all stakeholders, and for its integrated approach addressing the technical, environmental, and operational challenges of such a large-scale project. The contract's initial phase will focus on establishing collaborative working methods between the client and partners over four months. This will be followed by approximately 14 months of design and planning.

The initial design and planning phase, commissioned in March, is valued at 50 million euros. The subsequent execution phase is estimated at approximately 1.2 billion euros, with work anticipated to commence in early 2028. The Feronord consortium combines the international expertise of Bouygues Travaux Publics and Colas Rail in major railway projects with the local Swedish presence of Infrakraft. Their proposed technical solutions aim to optimize project performance, operational safety, and delivery timelines within the Swedish context.
