Ferry "Missunde III" Resumes Service After Technical Defect

The ferry "Missunde III", which serves the route between Brodersby and Kosel in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, has returned to operation after a technical defect caused a temporary suspension of service. The state agency for coastal protection, national parks, and marine conservation (LKN) announced on Wednesday afternoon that repairs are complete and service can continue.

On Tuesday, the ferry had to halt operations due to an issue within its hydraulic system. LKN reported that a bolt had become loose, causing approximately 50 liters of hydraulic oil to leak into an empty compartment within the ferry's hull. The leaked oil has since been collected and disposed of.

The "Missunde III" has experienced several disruptions since its introduction. Last week, the ferry was out of service due to low water levels in the Schlei Fjord. In late May, a damaged drive belt led to another operational halt. The new, battery-powered ferry was initially put into service in mid-June after a nearly three-week delay.

The resumption of service is expected to alleviate travel for passengers and vehicles crossing the Schlei Fjord, a key transport link in the region.
