Final Fantasy VII: Revelations, the next installment in the popular series, may demand a significant amount of storage, potentially reaching up to 200GB. This estimate was shared by Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi in a recent interview with VGC at Tokyo Game Show 2026.
Hamaguchi indicated that the development team "really needs to push the hardware limitations to some extent" to accommodate the game's content. While the full game may not fit onto physical discs entirely, he emphasized the company's desire to offer a physical product due to its importance. For context, the PC version of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth required 155GB, and both Remake and Rebirth used two Blu-ray discs for their physical editions.
Revelations is slated to utilize a single disc across all platforms, necessitating additional downloads for the complete game experience. This approach is partly due to the PS5's single-disc capacity limit of 100GB. Specific platform requirements will be detailed closer to the release.
The game is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The substantial storage requirement raises questions about player storage capacity and download times.
