Finavia to Modernize Operations Across 20 Airports with Amadeus AODB

Finavia, the Finnish airport operator, has selected Amadeus' cloud-based Airport Operational Database (AODB) for its 20 airports, including Helsinki Airport.

The new system is designed to improve the coordination of operations and enhance collaboration with airline partners. Traditionally, an AODB acts as the central 'brain' for airport operations, gathering data from air traffic control and airlines. Finavia's implementation will provide automated, real-time updates to flight information as soon as changes are initiated by airlines, aiding in better resource allocation and quicker responses to airline and passenger needs.

Leyla Akgez-Laakso, CIO at Finavia, stated that the new capability will significantly improve operational efficiency and collaboration with airline partners. The Amadeus AODB also offers a detailed understanding of passenger onward connections, assisting in the optimal allocation of arriving aircraft to gates.

Yannick Beunardeau, Vice President Airport IT and Airline Operations, EMEA at Amadeus, highlighted that Amadeus already manages data for approximately 95% of airlines operating at Finavia's airports. This positions Amadeus to provide Finavia and its stakeholders with accurate, real-time data on flight plans and passenger connections. Finavia becomes one of the first airport companies to run its AODB from the cloud, employing a multi-airport approach that automatically cascades operational changes across its network.

The cloud-based solution allows access to the AODB from any device with an internet connection, benefiting ground handlers working airside. The implementation is underway and will be rolled out in phases across the 20 airports over the coming year. This agreement extends Finavia's partnership with Amadeus, which began in March 2021 with the adoption of Amadeus cloud technology for passenger services and payments.
