Fincantieri Launches New Luxury Cruise Ship Oceania Sonata
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has launched the construction of a new luxury cruise ship, Oceania Sonata, at its Marghera shipyard. The vessel is slated for delivery to Oceania Cruises in 2027.
Fincantieri and Oceania Cruises, part of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., have launched the construction of the new luxury cruise ship Oceania Sonata at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard. The ship is scheduled for delivery in 2027.
The Oceania Sonata will have a gross tonnage of approximately 86,000 tons and accommodate 1,390 guests. The design emphasizes spacious public areas, high comfort standards, and an exclusive travel experience.
This vessel is the first in Oceania Cruises' new Sonata Class. The Sonata Class builds upon the Allura Class, which includes ships like Oceania Vista and Oceania Allura, both built by Fincantieri and delivered in 2023 and 2025, respectively. The Sonata Class program also includes Oceania Arietta, planned for 2029, and three additional sister ships for delivery in 2032, 2035, and 2037.
The project further strengthens the partnership between Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. Fincantieri noted that its Marghera shipyard is a strategic hub for large cruise ship construction and a major global shipbuilding center.
