Finland and Sweden Prepare for Patria TRACKX Vehicle Procurement

Finland's Defence Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) have signed an Implementation Arrangement to cooperate on preparing for the procurement of tracked armored personnel carriers. The arrangement facilitates technology cooperation for the pre-series procurement of the Patria TRACKX tracked vehicle developed by Patria, as well as for potential future procurements.

The Patria TRACKX is designed for demanding conditions, including soft terrains, deep snow, marshes, and desert sand dunes. Developed as part of the multinational FAMOUS program, co-funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF), the vehicle aims to offer high ballistic protection and mobility in diverse environments.

"We at Patria are very pleased to see strong interest in Patria TRACKX from Finland and Sweden, where demanding and Arctic conditions set high requirements that the vehicle is well suited to meet," stated Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area. "Our objective is to bring the tracked vehicle into serial production as early as 2027." Järvinen noted that multinational cooperation is expected to reduce costs, improve security of supply, and increase interoperability.

For both nations, the Patria TRACKX is intended to enhance the mobility of land forces operating in Arctic conditions and other challenging terrains. The agreement allows for information exchange during the pre-series procurement phase, with both countries making independent decisions on acquiring pre-series vehicles and assessing their operational suitability.
