Finland and Ukraine Sign Defence Cooperation Agreement
Finland and Ukraine have signed an agreement to enhance defence materiel cooperation. The deal is expected to strengthen both nations' defence capabilities, with Patria set to participate in drone production in Finland.
On September 23, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an agreement to deepen defence and security cooperation between their countries. The deal, commonly referred to as the "drone deal," establishes a framework for defence materiel collaboration.
As part of the agreement, Finnish defence company Patria will collaborate with Ukrainian drone manufacturer General Cherry. A Letter of Intent signed in August 2026 between the companies paves the way for initiating drone production in Finland. Patria stated that this collaboration will support the development of Europe's defence capabilities and bolster the company's role as a defense technology pioneer.
The agreement marks a significant step in bilateral defence ties and is anticipated to accelerate the development and deployment of new defense solutions. Both nations aim to enhance their respective defence readiness and respond more effectively to evolving security challenges.
Patria is an international defence and technology company with over a century of experience. It focuses on providing reliable solutions for land, sea, and air forces. The company is majority-owned by the Finnish state (50.1%), with Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS holding the remaining 49.9%.
