Finland, Norway, Latvia Sign Intent for Patria TRACKX Vehicle Development

Finland, Norway, and Latvia signed a Statement of Intent on July 7, at the NATO Summit in Ankara, concerning the development and cooperation of Patria TRACKX armored tracked vehicles. The agreement facilitates information sharing on the vehicle's future development and field trial results.

The Patria TRACKX is a next-generation armored tracked vehicle developed within the multinational FAMOUS program, co-funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF). The Statement of Intent enables participating countries to explore potential joint procurements and development projects.

Patria CEO Panu Routila highlighted the need for enhanced mobility for European and allied land forces, stating that multinational cooperation and joint procurement are the most effective ways to translate shared requirements into fielded capabilities and interoperability. He emphasized that all-terrain mobility is a strategic area for NATO and European defense.

The TRACKX cooperation builds on the successful Patria 6x6-based Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) model. In the CAVS program, joint requirements, coordinated procurement, and shared life-cycle support have accelerated deliveries, improved interoperability, and strengthened security of supply among participating European and NATO nations.

The objective of the cooperation is to establish a joint procurement arrangement among the participating nations, enabling national serial procurements to begin from 2027 onwards. A parallel pre-series preparation agreement between Finland and Sweden supports technology cooperation and the readiness of the TRACKX platform for future acquisitions.
