Finnfund Trainee Eetu Turunen Finds Meaning and Responsibility

Helsinki – Eetu Turunen, a trainee in risk management at Finnfund, has been working in an evolving role for over two years, gaining experience across finance, accounting, and risk management. Turunen is currently pursuing his master's degree at Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT).

Turunen describes Finnfund as a smaller organization that has allowed him to gain diverse experience in accounting, finance, risk management, and back-office tasks. As a trainee, he has been entrusted with significant responsibility and has been able to apply his academic knowledge in practice. He has learned about loans, equities, cash management, and risk management, valuing the close working relationships with experienced colleagues.

During his traineeship, Turunen has transitioned smoothly between teams, working in accounting, back-office, treasury, and risk management departments. His tasks have included tracking loan and fund payments, calculating loan payments, supporting project risk ratings, attending investment meetings, and verifying fund transfers. The flexible work culture has enabled him to balance his work with his studies.

Turunen warmly recommends a traineeship at Finnfund. He felt treated as an equal team member quickly and enjoys the sense of purpose in his work compared to larger firms where an individual's role might be smaller. As a trainee, he feels he is making an impact on the company's operations.
