The Finnish Defence Forces' Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence (AI Centre of Excellence) has officially launched its operations. The center aims to enhance the Defence Forces' capabilities by promoting the effective use of data and emerging technologies. Software and service company Digia has been selected as a technology-independent partner to support this initiative.

Digia will assist in establishing operational models designed to accelerate the implementation of the Defence Forces' data and AI strategy and to operationalize the AI Centre of Excellence. Digia's experts are set to bolster the center's capacity in developing data-driven and AI-based capabilities. The company has a history of collaboration with the Finnish Defence Forces, having been a partner since 2018.

Lieutenant Colonel Petteri Hemminki, Head of the Finnish Defence AI Centre of Excellence, highlighted the center's role in executing the Defence Forces' data strategy. He stated that the center will ensure the ability to react swiftly to rapidly changing situations and threats through close cooperation with leading organizations in the field. Hemminki noted that the Defence Forces are pioneers in adopting new technologies, and the AI Centre of Excellence will further accelerate this development.

Timo Levoranta, President and CEO of Digia, commented that the Defence Forces are setting an example in integrating new technologies into their operations, processes, and services, yielding measurable results. According to Digia, its strengths lie in experience within high-security environments and service lifecycle management, ensuring security, reliability, and operational continuity.
