Mumbai hosted the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, where a wave of new fintech products centered on agentic AI, cross-border payments, and merchant credit were unveiled. The event highlighted the growing integration of artificial intelligence within financial services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fest, outlining four key industry goals: expanding UPI's global reach, extending fintech into pensions and insurance, building a Fintech Consumer Protection Index, and recognizing agentic AI, tokenization, and quantum computing as future frontiers.
Among the significant launches were open-source Android ATMs serving as digital banking units, capable of opening accounts and issuing cards in minutes, reducing traditional onboarding times. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) also introduced AiNxt, an open-source platform for building and deploying AI agents, alongside AtOM, an orchestration platform for auditing UPI integrations.
Several companies showcased specific agentic AI applications. PhonePe partnered with Visa to launch cardless payment solutions like "Tap to Pay" and "Cross Border Scan to Pay." BharatPe unveiled an AI assistant for merchants built on Google Cloud's platform, while Pine Labs integrated an agentic commerce feature into its PLANET app for automated services like flight bookings.
