India's fintech sector saw increased investment and AI adoption in August. A report highlights companies focused on simplifying insurance, personal finance, and accounting solutions.

India's fintech sector provided a clear view of industry direction in August, with continued robust investment activity. The landscape is increasingly shaped by AI integration and new business models.
The central discussion point was the UPI payment system. Government proposals for merchant discount rates (MDR) on select UPI transactions revived debates on the sustainability of India's free payment infrastructure. AI is becoming fundamental to financial infrastructure. Razorpay's launch of Vulcan, an AI model trained on billions of payments, exemplifies how fintech companies are leveraging AI for payment success, fraud detection, and transaction intelligence.
August also showed strong investor interest in specialized fintech businesses. Wealthtech startup Centricity raised ₹280 Cr for its wealth distribution platform, and Navi secured $100 Mn. These deals reinforce fintech's position as a key investment area.
The report identifies five fintech startups that captured attention in August: CoverSure, aiming to simplify insurance tracking and management; Fold Money, a personal finance platform offering a consolidated financial overview; and Komplai, an AI-driven accounting service for MSMEs automating financial processes and reducing manual work.
