Firefox 157 Users Can Disable New Nova Interface

With the release of Mozilla Firefox 157, users can now disable the default Nova interface and updated sidebar by modifying advanced settings.

3 October 2026

Mozilla has released Firefox 157, which defaults to a visual overhaul known as Project Nova. This update aims to streamline the browser's appearance, but not all users have welcomed the changes. Tech media outlet WinAero has published instructions enabling users to revert to the previous, classic interface.

The Firefox 157 Nova interface modifies tabs, toolbars, menus, and settings with the goal of reducing visual clutter. The browser's sidebar has also received a new look and functionality. While these changes are intended to create a cleaner browsing experience, they may not appeal to all users.

Users wishing to return to the older look can do so by editing the browser's advanced preferences. Entering about:config into the address bar and accepting the risk warning provides access to hidden settings. There, changing the value of the browser.nova.enabled setting from true to false will restore the classic interface.

Similarly, the new sidebar can also be disabled. This involves locating the sidebar.revamp setting in about:config and changing its value from true to false. These steps allow users to customize Firefox's appearance according to their preferences.
