First CMG robot competition commences on Mount Taishan
The inaugural CMG robot competition began on November 2 in Shandong, China, forcing various robotic platforms to navigate a 3,100-step mountain trail.
The first CMG robot competition kicked off on November 2 at the base of Mount Taishan in Shandong province. The event requires robotic competitors to navigate a challenging terrain covering 3,100 steps and a 600-meter elevation gain between the Hongmen and Zhongtianmen gates.
The competition features four main categories: humanoid speed racing, quadruped speed racing, quadruped weight-carrying, and exoskeleton-assisted climbing. A fifth event, a cross-area terrain challenge, tests the machines' ability to handle complex outdoor environments.
Live footage from the event showed varying performance levels, with some robots struggling with balance on the steps, resulting in penalties. The competition serves as a practical assessment of current robotic capabilities, particularly for machines designed to switch between wheel-based travel and limb-based climbing in variable mountainous conditions.
