First full-electric Scania truck enters service in Tampere
The first fully electric Scania 25P distribution truck began operating in the Tampere area in June 2023. The new electric truck will serve as a subcontractor for Kaukokiito Oy.

The first fully electric Scania 25P distribution truck commenced operations in the Tampere area in June 2023. The vehicle was acquired by local transport company JOI-vuokraus Oy, which operates as a subcontractor for Kaukokiito Oy in the region. The new electric truck is intended for distribution services, with its approximate 200-kilometer range well-suited for city and near-city routes.
According to Outi Ihalainen, CEO of JOI-vuokraus Oy, the acquisition of the electric vehicle was driven purely by environmental considerations and the company's commitment to cleaner transportation. "The purchase of our first fully electric vehicle is a significant step for us, but it is the first step on our company's greener development path," Ihalainen stated.
Kaukokiito Oy has set an ambitious target to transport all deliveries carbon-neutrally by 2030, five years ahead of the national goal. Henri Koort, Production and Customer Service Director at Kaukokiito, sees the expansion of the electric fleet as a concrete part of this strategy. "The investment in our continuously growing electric vehicle fleet is a tangible example of this," Koort said.
Kaukokiito has also expanded its eco-friendly transport solutions, including the Kaukokiito BIO service using renewable diesel and more efficient HCT (High Capacity Transport) combination vehicles. The company also utilizes emission-free heating solutions at its terminals, such as geothermal and solar power.
Mika Iso-Järvenpää, Kaukokiito's production manager in Tampere, noted that electrifying longer routes would require further development of the public charging infrastructure. However, with current route planning and overnight charging, the electric trucks perform adequately. The new Scania 25P visually aligns with Kaukokiito's renewed brand image and its strong environmental objectives.
