Fish Oil Prices Increased 2.2%-3.9% in Q1 2026 Amid Supply Constraints

Fish oil prices saw a notable increase across five monitored markets in the first quarter of 2026, with gains ranging from 2.2% to 3.9% quarter-over-quarter. The price hikes were attributed to reduced Atlantic catch volumes, which tightened sourcing costs for refiners. Rising aquafeed procurement expenses and restocking of omega-3 supplements by health product distributors also contributed to the upward price bias.

Belgium registered the strongest quarterly gain, with prices climbing 3.9% to USD 3,243 per metric ton. The United Kingdom saw a 3.3% increase, reaching USD 4,009 per MT, influenced by diminished North Sea catches that restricted import flows from Norway and Iceland. France experienced a 3.1% rise to USD 3,937 per MT, and Japan's prices moved up 2.8% to USD 2,377 per MT.

In Canada, fish oil reached USD 4,809 per MT, a 2.2% increase. Tightening raw material supply, driven by reduced South American anchovy catch volumes, increased procurement costs for refiners. Buyers in the health supplement and aquafeed sectors accelerated their purchases, contributing to a consistent upward price trend throughout the quarter.

Broader market pressures were exacerbated in March 2026 by geopolitical events, including the conflict between Israel, Iran, and the USA, which led to the suspension of approximately one-fifth of global crude oil and natural gas supply. This disruption further compounded input cost pressures across the sector.
