Flipkart to Enter Food Delivery Market

Walmart-owned e-commerce giant Flipkart is set to enter India's food delivery sector in the coming weeks, marking its expansion beyond its core online retail operations.

The company will launch its food delivery service soon, according to Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy. This move intensifies competition in a market currently led by Swiggy and Zomato, with ride-hailing firm Rapido also recently entering the space.

This expansion follows Flipkart's entry into quick commerce with 'Flipkart Minutes' less than a year ago. The strategy aims to increase customer engagement through high-frequency, everyday services.

The food delivery service will be available as both a standalone app and within the main Flipkart application. Initial focus will be on testing the value proposition and improving the product based on customer feedback before scaling operations. Details on the launch city, branding, and operating model remain undisclosed.
