Flipkart to Launch Food Delivery Service
Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart is set to debut its food delivery service later this month in Bengaluru, aiming to challenge established players Zomato and Swiggy.

Indian e-commerce major Flipkart is preparing to launch its own food delivery service later this month, beginning in Bengaluru with plans for wider expansion. The company aims to challenge the existing duopoly of Zomato and Swiggy by leveraging its vast user base and existing logistics infrastructure.
The service will initially utilize Flipkart's existing ecosystem, including its Ekart logistics network for deliveries and ONDC integration for onboarding restaurants. A dedicated app is under development, but initial operations will be managed by Flipkart Minutes. Flipkart expects to cross-sell food orders to its approximately 500 million registered users and 40 million SuperCoins members.
A key differentiator for Flipkart is its proposed lower commission structure for restaurants, reportedly between 12% and 13%, compared to the up to 30% charged by competitors. This move directly addresses long-standing grievances within the restaurant industry regarding high platform fees.
Flipkart's entry into the capital-intensive food delivery market follows unsuccessful attempts by other major players like Amazon Food and Tata Neu. The company's success will likely depend on its ability to combine aggressive pricing and efficient logistics with user acquisition and retention strategies in a competitive landscape.
