Flix and Scania Partner to Increase Biogas Use in Bus Travel
Flix and Scania have entered a long-term partnership aimed at enhancing the use of biogas in bus travel. The companies plan to equip up to 50 coaches with Bio-LNG technology by 2025.
Travel company Flix and vehicle manufacturer Scania have announced a long-term partnership to advance the use of biogas, specifically Bio-LNG (LBG), in bus travel. The collaboration aims to accelerate the transition to more sustainable transportation solutions.
As a primary objective, the companies intend to equip up to 50 coaches within the FlixBus network with Scania's developed Bio-LNG technology by the end of 2025. This technology allows for interchangeable use of LNG and Bio-LNG, facilitating a shift towards the most sustainable gas option. Coaches running entirely on Bio-LNG are projected to achieve an approximate 80% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional fuels.
This initiative aligns with Flix's broader strategy to achieve carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040, with fleet transformation being a crucial element. Scania's past experience with biogas buses has demonstrated their capability to significantly cut emissions and reduce noise pollution compared to diesel engines, while maintaining comparable power output.
The coaches involved in this project are Irizar i6s Efficient models integrated with Scania chassis. Flix highlights the partnership's importance in driving sustainability within the transport sector and meeting growing passenger demand for environmentally friendly travel options.
