Long-distance bus operator FlixBus announced it has reached a milestone of 82 million passengers across Europe, a figure roughly equivalent to Germany's total population. The company celebrated this achievement on German Unity Day, underscoring the established role of its coach services as a green mobility alternative.

Five years after the German long-distance bus market opened, FlixBus has become a significant player. The company states its network offers over 200,000 daily connections to 1,200 destinations in Europe, positioning it as one of the most environmentally friendly public transport options.

While connecting major cities, FlixBus also emphasizes its service to rural areas. Over 80 percent of FlixBus stops are located in villages and small to medium-sized towns, facilitating domestic travel within Germany and linking diverse regions. Further operational expansion is anticipated for 2018 with new routes.

The passenger demographic indicates that over 60 percent of FlixBus users are women, who report feeling safer traveling by bus compared to other methods. Young adults aged 18–25 represent the largest age group (33 percent), followed by individuals over 50 (25 percent). International passengers now comprise approximately 20 percent, a threefold increase since the company's inception. Primary travel purposes include holidays, short trips, visiting friends and family, and business travel.
