FlixBus reaches ten-year milestone in Hungary, Croatia, and Spain
FlixBus marks a decade of operations in Hungary, Croatia, and Spain, navigating complex regulatory environments that restrict domestic market entry.

FlixBus has completed ten years of operations in Hungary, Croatia, and Spain. While the company has established a presence in all three countries since 2016, the expansion of domestic service remains uneven due to varying national transport regulations and existing state concessions.
In Hungary, FlixBus began selling domestic tickets earlier in 2026, connecting 14 cities. However, the company faces significant competition from the state-owned operator MÁV, which holds a monopoly on intercity bus concessions until 2035. Similarly, in Spain, access to the domestic market remains limited by the government, restricting FlixBus primarily to international routes that connect to nine different countries.
Croatia represents a more open regulatory climate following a partial market liberalization in late 2025. Flix continues to operate through a partnership model, coordinating network planning and pricing while relying on 32 local bus operators across the three regions to handle daily transport services.
