FlixMobility Acquires Greyhound to Expand U.S. Intercity Bus Services
FlixMobility announced its acquisition of Greyhound Lines, Inc., the largest provider of long-distance bus transportation in the United States. The deal combines FlixBus' technology and global network with Greyhound's nationwide presence.
FlixMobility, a global mobility provider, has acquired Greyhound Lines, Inc., the largest provider of long-distance bus transportation in the United States, from FirstGroup plc. The acquisition aims to enhance intercity bus services by merging FlixBus' technology and mobility expertise with Greyhound's extensive network and brand recognition.
The combination seeks to capitalize on the growing demand for affordable, sustainable, and collective mobility options in the U.S. FlixBus operates in 36 countries outside the U.S. with a network of over 2,500 destinations, while Greyhound connects approximately 2,400 destinations across North America, serving nearly 16 million passengers annually.
According to FlixMobility's CEO André Schwämmlein, the combined entity will be better positioned to meet increased demand as consumers seek alternatives to private car usage due to factors like fluctuating gas prices and environmental concerns. FlixMobility emphasizes its role in promoting sustainable and accessible travel.
FlixBus launched its U.S. operations in 2018 and has since expanded its reach. This acquisition represents a significant step in FlixMobility's strategy to build its global presence and offer affordable, sustainable mobility solutions worldwide. The financial terms of the deal involved an enterprise value of approximately $46 million plus deferred consideration.
