FlixMobility Continues Focus on Green Mobility
Long-distance bus and train provider FlixMobility reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable transport for 2021. The company reported approximately 30 million passengers in 2020, navigating a challenging pandemic year.

FlixMobility, a major long-distance bus and train operator, confirmed in January 2021 that its "Vision 2021" strategy remains in place, emphasizing sustainable and affordable travel.
The company announced it served approximately 30 million passengers across its FlixBus and FlixTrain services globally in 2020. Despite the pandemic significantly reducing passenger numbers by nearly 50% compared to the previous year, FlixMobility successfully resumed operations from late May 2020. This resumption was supported by comprehensive hygiene measures, including mandatory masks, contactless check-ins, and regular disinfection.
Analysis of FlixMobility's travel data indicates that the pandemic has weakened traditional seasonal travel patterns. Instead, the company observed more evenly distributed smaller travel waves influenced by varying pandemic regulations and risk areas. "As an early-stage travel tech company, we have the know-how and the capability to react quickly and flexibly to changing demand," stated CEO André Schwämmlein.
For the second consecutive year, the German Federal Environment Agency recognized long-distance bus travel with its highest environmental rating for CO2 emissions per passenger in 2020. FlixMobility maintains its goal of achieving complete climate neutrality by 2030 and offers passengers the option to offset their individual journey's CO2 emissions. In 2020, over 7 tons of CO2 were offset by passengers.
