FlixTrain orders 65 new high-speed trains for European expansion
Flix announced a significant investment in rail transport with the order of 65 new European high-speed trains from Talgo, powered by Siemens locomotives. The deal is valued up to 2.4 billion EUR.

FlixTrain has announced a major expansion of its rail operations by ordering 65 new European high-speed trains. The order, placed with Spanish manufacturer Talgo for the trainsets and Siemens for the locomotives, is worth up to 2.4 billion EUR, with over 1 billion EUR already committed. This move aims to capitalize on the growing demand for sustainable and affordable rail travel across the continent.
The company aims to tap into the significant market potential for high-speed rail in Germany and Europe. In Germany, long-distance rail passenger transport is projected to grow by 45% by 2030. FlixTrain itself has expanded its offering by 40% in 2024, building on strong growth in the previous year. The new fleet is expected to significantly increase capacity and service frequency.
"We are initiating a new era of rail travel in Germany and Europe," stated André Schwämmlein, CEO and co-founder of Flix. He emphasized the company's long-term strategy to win more passengers for sustainable rail transport and to expand the overall market, not just its own share.
The new trains will feature speeds of up to 230 km/h and are designed for enhanced passenger comfort, including accessible entry, advanced information systems, and modern Wi-Fi. Crucially, they are engineered for interoperability across multiple European countries, facilitating FlixTrain's ambitious pan-European network expansion plans. The company currently serves around 50 cities directly and connects to approximately 650 destinations through partnerships.
