Florida DMV Data Breach Affected Driver and Vehicle Records

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has started informing individuals affected by a data breach that exposed driver's license and motor vehicle information. The department confirmed on Friday that "immediate steps were taken" after discovering that "a malicious actor accessed certain department records on September 4, 2026, using compromised credentials."

While the department stated there is "no evidence" that the data has been misused yet, law enforcement determined that "the information potentially affected includes driver license and motor vehicle data, to include document images, and other personal information."

FLHSMV is issuing letters to affected individuals and offering one year of credit monitoring services from Sontiq, Inc. However, the agency acknowledged it may lack current contact information for many former Florida residents whose data was still stored.

Individuals concerned about whether their data was compromised can contact FLHSMV via email at customerinquiry@flhsmv.gov. The full scope of the breach and the total number of affected individuals have not yet been detailed.
