Florida Southern College Reopens Restored Frank Lloyd Wright Planetarium
Florida Southern College has reopened its newly restored Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Planetarium to the public this month. The extensive restoration has returned the historic space to active educational and public use after more than two decades.
Florida Southern College (FSC) reopened its restored Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Planetarium to the public in September 2026. The Planetarium, located within the Polk Science Building, returns to active educational and public use for the first time in over two decades.
The Planetarium is the only one of its kind designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and is part of FSC's collection of 13 Wright-designed structures, the largest single site collection of Wright architecture globally. The restoration aimed to preserve Wright's original vision while updating the space for contemporary educational needs.
"Reopening the Planetarium brings an important piece of our campus history back to life and creates new opportunities for our students and the community," said Dr. Jeremy P. Martin, president of Florida Southern College. "The restoration honors the history of this remarkable space while allowing students, visitors, and the broader community to experience it in a meaningful way."
The Planetarium will offer regular public shows and is available for schools and other groups. Programming focuses on astronomy and the universe. The restoration was supported by state funding, private donations, and federal grants. The latest phase included the installation of a new projection and sound system to modernize the facility.
