FlyUSA Opens 50,000 Sq Ft Hangar at Tampa Airport Amid Fleet Growth

FlyUSA, a U.S.-based private jet charter provider, has opened a new 50,000-square-foot hangar and a private owner's lounge at Tampa International Airport (TPA). The facility is designed to support the company's expanding fleet and includes advanced maintenance capabilities.

The hangar can accommodate approximately 20 light, midsize, and heavy jets, and features a specialized tail door capable of handling aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 737. It is one of the few corporate hangars in the region that can house the latest ultra-long-range aircraft, such as the Gulfstream G700 and Bombardier Global 7500, addressing a growing industry need for larger aircraft accommodation.

This expansion comes as the aviation industry faces a shortage of hangar space that keeps pace with the increasing size and number of new business jets. FlyUSA's CEO, Barry Shevlin, noted that this capacity issue is particularly acute for owners of the newest, largest private aircraft.

The new facility serves as FlyUSA's primary maintenance hub and will house about 30 employees. It also includes an exclusive lounge for aircraft owners, offering amenities designed to function as a private club and workspace, separate from traditional fixed-base operator (FBO) lounges.

The Tampa hub is intended to serve as a blueprint for FlyUSA's future infrastructure developments in other key markets. The company also holds a lease for a potential 50,000-square-foot hangar in Lakeland, Florida, expected to be operational by late 2028 or early 2029.
